RE: NYT article on CrossFit (http://tinyurl.com/32czqz): The exposure is great. However, the focus on the rhabdo, death of Navy seal and accounts of workouts being nearly impossible for the average human to do, work to portray CrossFit as an organization comprised of of elite and insane zealtos. Further, it sounds like a warning to the general public at worst, and is only a backhanded endorsement of CrossFit as a viable exercise regimen/model, at best. This is not the first time I've seen these sentiments on the internet, but it is the first time I've seen in it in mass circulation media. Huh. I suppose it will bring more already "very fit" folks to CF but may deter others who could greatly benefit from checking it out. Sadly, I likely would have been deterred by such an article and hence never would have known what benefits I might gain by giving CrossFit a try and then commiting to working really hard. One of the many strengths of CrossFit is its scalability. Another is that you come as you are--you can be old or young, fit, fat, strong, weak and so forth; you can use the routine to work to your advantage and you don't have to injure yourself or compete with anyone but yourself. I say, tell your friends and family how you've benefited and potray CF for the role it's had in your life.
I liked the article, but it is unfortunate that the infinite scalability of workouts was not mentioned. There was this one too:

I am actually going to post the article as tomorrow's rest day post.
I like the "cult" t-shirt idea, because I've already gotten several comments that CrossFit seems cultish!! I also saw a cross fit blog entry the other day that said "Our warm-up is your work out." I like that for a shirt too. But, either way I agree we definitely need shirts!!

Cheryl and I agree on the puking teddy bear. Very sweet. Cult would do fine too.
