Crossfit East Bay Rest Day 6-30-08
If you are looking for something interesting to do today, try the following:
Perform kettlebell swings in the following manner (probably men 53#/ women 35#):
Do one swing
Take one deep breath
Do two swings
Take two deep breaths
etc.
When you reach 20, reverse the order and go back down to one:
1
2
3
4
etc...
20
19
18
17
etc...
Frank M. and I will be trying this in Tahoe.

I knew this was coming. A workout designed to induce a trance state in the participant. Similar to certain mind control experiments allegedly carried out by the CIA. (and Max conveniently out of town, giving himself plausible deniability) Anyway I can't wait to try it!!! I'll probably awake from the workout walking naked down Telegraph Avenue chanting one of Coach Glassman's Marvel comic-like Zen koans, "Alter your Hormonal Milieu". Alas, this being Berkeley no one will even notice me.
... Think you might be a little fuzzy on the concept of a 'rest day' Max :-p
This comment is by Frank M:
I can't say that was I in a trance like state, but I will admit by sets 17,18,19 my brain was so full on endorphins that the ripping pain on my sacrum when the bell on its return arch finally left me( it joined me at set 6) I was able to fully able to appreciate the ladder.
Set 10 and onwards was MY Moby Dick. I could never get passed rep 10. Regardless of the set it was the same from there after: rep 10 stop, regrip, 2 breaths and swing the remaining number. Getting past ten was hard on the up side of the ladder. Going down, mmm it wasn't a problem.
Now if I do this again( which I will), I think i would do it with a 45lb just to keep momentum and actually blow pass rep 10 without stopping briefly and really enhance my calm with kettle bell Zen. But of course, feeling pain.. makes me feel alive!

Jim and I did this today. I went down to the 12kg, and Jim started with the 24kg, but soon went down to 16kg. It was pretty good, I would agree with the trance-like-ness. And since we didn't push the heaviness it was very do-able. But we only went up to 20, and we didn't go down. It just seemed like a lot of kettlebell swinging for one session.
