It is common knowledge that an athlete's apparel varies according to the sport. This is especially true for shoes. In his book The Dialectics of Nature, the Marxist philosopher Engels observed the harmony between form and function in nature. The need for harmony between the form and function of the athletic shoe is absolutely imperative in sport.
For instance, in Track and Field, the design and function of the athlete's shoes for each event vary according to the specifics of the activity. A distance runner would not wear a sprinter's shoes for the 10,000 meter event and vice versa; yet both are running events.
In many cases there is not a great deal of versatility in terms of what would appear to be similar athletic shoes. The spiked shoes designed for baseball are not appropriate for football even though both sports require a shoe that provides traction for running short distances.
So, it should come as no surprise that there is a special shoe made for weightlifting. The weightlifting shoe is rather unique in the world of sports because it features a raised heel. The form of the shoe has evolved over the 100+ years of international weightlifting competitions. Today the form of the top model of weightlifting shoe is in harmony with its function in the modern competition program.
The history of the design and the function of the modern weightlifting shoe is traceable in the history of the evolution of the technique of the weightlifting exercises.

Day 15 done.
Well, I choked and ended my streak at day 13 - I couldn't resist smores from a campfire. I got back on the wagon yesterday, so I think that puts me at 14 non-consecutive days.
Spent the weekend in Joshua Tree - very cool desert park. And for those of you who climb, there are some very cool routes to enjoy as well.
Day 15 done.
Oh alright...I too fell off the wagon. I think I only made it through day 5, but have been too embarassed by my ridiculously weak showing to admit it. I'm also not fond of admitting that I got the very lowest score (by a lot) on our latest "man overboard", but Max is right that I need to post my not-so-great results, as well as the ones I'm proud of.
My-o-my that humble pie has a lot of sugar in it :-)
PS. Me and my sugar-coated insides are thinking about running 4x400 tonight at the Cal track if anyone is interested.
Where, exactly and when for the running? I seem to have tweaked my back, but I may come and jog out a few 4s to see if I can loosen it up. Gita you coming?
Day 15 is it? Whatever the count, I am still in.
Day 15 done. When are you doing the 4Xs? I might be able to come by.
James, re: 4x400m, Are you running at Cal track? I think Bill said that the Berk. H.S. track was less crowded. Would that work? Also, is it okay to make it 6pm? I know you tend to like early but I can't get there until then. Else, have fun you running people!
I think that the regular climbing appointment that I have today is falling through due to my partners sickness. Therefore, it looks like I will be able to run tonight. I however suggest 4X800 because I want to see someone (possibly me) puke. Alternatively, we could all grab headlamps and run my favorite trail, I promise this is a run that exemplifies CrossFit.
I'm down with 4x400, 4x800, or Gita's death march. Berkeley HS is probably better for the 4x, as the track at Cal that I visit doesn't have any lights. 6PM works for me.....
By the way I like the national WOD today. I could do it in somewhere between 1 and 3 hours I think.
Right on, right on! See y'all at H.S. track at 6pm? (I don't want to know what Gita's death march is. Oy.)
Oh, wait. I understand now. Yeah, Gita's crazy trail running with headlamps is fine too. Whatever y'all decide, let me know here or via cell: 510-501-2513.
Woo hoo!
We should run on the BHS track. If someone falls off my trail into the canyon I will feel really bad. Is the BHS track the best place for everyone and can we can access it? Lights should not be a problem if we are running on a track.
Okay, BHS at 6pm. Do I hear any naye? The ayes have it. Be there, you squares!
