CrossFit East Bay WOD @ Ironworks 090110 And The Last Word On Sugar
Sugar Skulls
Here is the last word on the sugar challenge. I'm hearing that it is just too hard to actually not eat any sugar whatsoever, because so much of it is hidden. That is fine. For our purposes, the no-sugar challenge means you make a good-faith effort not to eat sugar, and you don't knowingly eat sugar. That means reading labels and asking about preparation in restaurants. Anyone who accidentally consumed sugar up to now gets a one-time pass. Next time, ask or check if not sure. If you want to be totally certain, you will really not be able to eat out for the month, and I would guess just about 100% of sauces in restaurants contain sugar.
PS - We (The No-Sugar Crew) are Internet Famous!
"Most of the problems with the bodies and minds of the folks occupying the current culture involve an unwillingness to do anything hard, or anything that they'd rather not do. I applaud your resolve, and I welcome you to the community of people who have decided that EASY will no longer suffice."

What's the weight on the KB hang cleans?
It will be 1.5 pood for men and 1 pood for women.
I'm considering treatment of my growing crossfit addiction with forced cookie consumption as punishment for each class... or perhaps each rep?
Oh, thank goodness. I don't stand a chance in hell for time but at least I can friggin' do it without wondering if I'll cripple myself. Those heavy kb swings from last week laid me out!
Alex: that doesn't sound like punishment ;)
Ev, you haven't seen Alex after a bag of cookies. It's punishment. :)
By the way, I promised Bill I'd post a link to the handwraps I used tonight, with great success. They can be made in advance and re-used, and will come in very handy (so to speak) tomorrow. I highly recommend them.
Rebecca - punishment for you or for him? :)
btw, with all the sugar talk, the Naked Food honey oats tastes especially good today; must be the extra crack they added in this bunch...
day 5 donezo
Day 5 done.
Nice work, Gita and Polly!
BTW: Gita almost tied with James C. but got one extra rep (not sure if it was push or pull) Wow!
Also, Max (since you asked) this seemed disproportionately harder for men than women (since they had ring push-ups and C2B and women had regular push-ups and pull-ups). The men rocked it anyway and certainly nobody complained. However, usually the exercises for the bodyweight wods are identical for men and women (Angie, Cindy, Barbara, Michael...etc.) and the men just end up with higher scores (Well sometimes not--if they're up against Elaine and Polly but that's another matter. LOL.)

Thank you Daniel, I have high hopes that the hand wraps will be just the thing. After seeing yours last night I realized we need a special name for them. I suggest "Hand Thongs". This is an obvious marketing device to promote interest, but I thing it is suggested by the product. I want to be able to turn to my co-workers at the end of the day and say, "Time to go home, put on my hand thongs and do pull-ups"
That will get them murmuring, I'm sure.
Day 5 done. Is that right I loose track. Also, I thought James C. and I tied last night in terms of number of reps. When adding them up with Ev at the end I did end up with one more rep. However, I did not stick strictly to the 3 minute break between rounds as James did. I am sure I was close but I was just going after Daniel and neither of us were watching the clock. Therefore, I think James deserves the best performance for yesterday.
And this is why I love CF in general and CFEB in particular: community/cameraderie, humor/good natured ribbing, support, competition, committment, humility, fairness and more--all encapsulated in the posts above. :)
Firebreather WOD: 7:17. Painful.
Day 5 done.
11rd + 12 DL rx (much more cardiovascularly demanding than at first glance)
max, i can assure you that 100%of restaurant sauces DO NOT contain sugar. at least not the sauces in my restaurant which i make on a daily basis. on tonights menu the duck sauce contains honey, the remainder have zero sugar content. well now that thats cleared up, happy new year coach.

Day 5 done.
Firebreather WOD: 4:42 as posted. Max, we think perhaps you meant to say snatches and not cleans.
We went to lunch at Rudy's, where we sacrificed a rather large tip and the patience of the cook to find out the following valuable pieces of information:
Ward: for our purposes, no added sweetener of any kind, which proves my point: sauces have sweetener in most every case.
So as someone in the restaurant biz, Ward, if a customer asked the average server if something contained trace amounts of sugar (roast chicken say) would they really bother to check??
Oopsy.
Yes indeed, 100 Kettlebell Hang Snatch was what I meant, no big deal, we will just move that one to next week. Now if I could just find one more movement that could be done 100 times with a KB for time...
red wine sauce:shallots,red wine, mushrooms,thyme,bay, veal stock,butter.
roast chicken jus(tonights fish sauce)
chicken bones,shallots,carrots,onion,garlic,white wine,rosemary,butter.
venison sauce:venison stock,brandy,sherry vinegar,peppercorns,juniper berries,cream.
caper butter:capers,shallots,white wine ,cream,butter.
and, when i roast chickens there is no sugar. that must be for brining or for "color". first order just came in. bon app, w
New, dangerous discovery:
Spoonful of almond butter (or peanut butter) on a dried apricot. DAMN.
I sort of knew that you meant to say snatches, but I thought maybe you thought it would be too difficult. Most people seemed to feel that 100 snatches with the 1.5 pood would have been unmanageable, so we went with the cleans.
Gita got his first muscle up today. Congratulations. There were several of you who are very close. Get a set of rings. Practice.
Sadly, I have to go on a last minute, emergency vacation to Mexico for two weeks. I'm leaving on Wednesday morning and that may be the end of my no sugar challenge. The thought of not having a margarita on the beach seems almost unbearable. And the only thing worse than having no margarita's is having to stop at one.
See everyone tomorrow
oh. and the best performers of the day were:
Polly with 14 rds rx
James C. with 11 rds + 12 DL's
And Matthew for the firebreather's class, 3:40.
Regular Workout:
7 rounds in 12:30 minutes - 1.5 pood
Firebreathers:
KB Swing 1.5 pood
4:41
max, sorry i didnt respond to your question. i am asked about sugar, flour and gluten. back to the stove. w
Firebreather's:
Bill 3:45
Matthew 3:40
Firebreather: 100 KB Hang Cleans 1P = 4:48
How about 100 KB push jerks/presses as another movement.
Sorry, forgot. Elaine's time of 4:48 beat Ev by 3 seconds for the firebreather's wod. I wrote down everyone's time, and I will send to Max soon.
Ward - where is your restaurant? it sounds YUMMY!
