All four outings look good. Maybe #3 would help me deal w/ fear of falling and I could make progress on my lead climbing. I refuse to take the test until I'm over being terrified.
I have updated the FBT page:
Firebreater Throwdown Page
Keeping track of this is a fair amount of work: post your results to the Firebreather Throwdown entry (Sunday's Post).
If you are going to make up the WOD, do it before the next one comes up, or you are DNF.
For the squat, you need an observer to verify that your hip crease goes below the top of your kneecap as below:
All of the above are intriguing, though I can't say skydiving has ever been especially high on my list. Terrifying actually, I prefer the goal being to *not* fall while climbing.
Paintball would be awesome, as would Zion.
4 * Climbing @ Diablo Rock Gym (Concord)
2 * Climbing/Hiking @ Zion National Park in June(Utah)
3 * Skydiving (I would get a serious case of the giggles and someone would have to push me out of the plane and I would probably wet my pants but I would do it)
1 * Paintball (More giggling and possible pant wetting but I've been dying to do this)
Ynez, you make me giggle.
Done the skydiving (it's like crossfit: first thing you say when done is 'I want to go again'), hiking @ Zion, and paintball before. I'd do all again...especially the skydiving! Been climbing before years ago but never in Concord and it's right near my work so sounds fun. And Ynez makes me giggle too.
"More giggling and possible pant wetting but I've been dying to do this"
Dying to giggle or wet your pants?
How about Paintball skydiving? I'm in on all accounts.
Or how about we climb to Angels' Landing, then jump off and shoot each other with paintballs on the way down?
I would love to go back to Zion - it's staggeringly beautiful. It would depend on vacation days, though.
I'd be willing to try paintball. I don't actually have much interest in skydiving.
Congratulations, Elaine! That's a very good-looking muscle-up you've got there.
Oh, and Rebecca is swamped with homework tonight, so neither of us will be able to join you all for climbing. :`(
Thanks Max for getting my MU on video! I should have worn something more colorful.
I'm up for all 4 fieldtrips. I have done tandem skydiving and had a good looking guy strapped to my back (I have the video). I got a little scared when I saw the first pair of people get whipped out of the plane. During the freefall, I was worried about losing my contacts and kept my eyes shut. I really enjoyed the ride down after the parachute was deployed. After landing I could not wipe the huge smile off my face and thought about getting my own parachute.
I visted Zion last year, but would like to hike the Narrows if I go again.
Can you add trapeze to the list?
Daniel's idea is the best but I think it would be better if it involved AMRAP and/or tabata elements and possibly In & Out burgers and/or cupcakes. Might be messy, especially if Ynez is going to be wetting her pants.
STRONG WORK ELAINE!!!
I am down for all of the above field trips. Especially paintball and skydiving. I really want my first time jumping out of an airplane to be at a time when I CHOOSE to jump, rather than HAVE to jump. :)
I wish I could go to social climbing tonight, but I'll be getting paid to push things around at the Oracle Arena instead. Oh well, such is life.
Sorry I have been MIA lately. I will endeavor to correct that.
Ev's idea (w/ easier to organize and cheaper stuff first). It could be like a one weekend day per month kind of thing:
March: Diablo climbing
April: paintball
May: skydive
June: Utah
One person could volunteer to organize per event insofar as researching, posting fee amount and deadline to RSVP/pay, as well as transportation options.
Congrats on that muscleup Elaine! That's awesome :-)
What about this as an alternative (or precursor ?) to skydiving: http://www.iflysfbay.com/
Also - does anyone backpack? maybe we could do just an overnight backpacking trip somwhere closer than Zion?
Sad to be missing climbing tonight :(
I love backpacking but isn't it usually a multi-day thing?
Do any women (or men--wouldn't want to be sexist) want to go in on a shipment of these really cool arm sleeves? They're
Darn. They're
Aha. The "less than sign" seems to be the culprit. Okay. They are less than $10 per pair. The shipping is $6.99 for one pair and $7.99 for seven pairs, which appears to be the max number available per order.
I don't expect you to remember this, but you can get a < sign by using the HTML code for the character, which is: & l t ; (without the spaces). Otherwise the forum thinks you're starting an HTML tag. Alternatively, you could just write "less than." ;)
</geek>
me please :-)
Oh - and backpacking does not HAVE to be multiple days. It's a bit of a pian to get all the gear together for just one night, but it it can certainly be done - out at point reyes for instance.
Gotcha, D. I won't remember the code but I will remember that it causes problems and can look it up next time. Hey, I learned the ñ and I use it all the time now :)
As for the sleeves, they're so unbelievably cool. I could go for two pair. Bekka, how many? Come on, y'all? Eric? How about some sleeves to go w/ the nail polish? You'd be the goth-hunka-burnin-liftiing man!
I like the idea of the overnight backpacking trip in Point Reyes (which costs basically nothing.)
Point Reyes is also cool, and for those of you who want to backpack I'm almost always up for discussing one or two night trips or car camp and day hike stuff during the summer.
Well done Elaine!
How about go-kart race driving??!!
lots of competition and great workout.
http://gokartracer.reachlocal.com
Grand Prix (Practice + Race): $60 (Great for Groups)
Drivers go out for a 10 minute practice session, take a 10 minute break and look at their race results (brag a little), then go back for 5 minutes of qualifying, line up on the starting grid and race for 15 minutes to cross the finish line first. You will complete between 50 and 55 laps.
I'm in for backbacking, however long...all my gear is just accumulating dust. And Ev, I'll take a pair of the arm sleeves even though I don't have nail polish to match! But hey, they'll match the crossfit shirt, right? ;-)
i want grand prix fast driving and arm warmers. can i get those in pink? ;-)
Arm warmers--Black only. You still want them. So far I have:
Me: two pair
Becca: one pair?
Elaine: ditto
Robin: ditto
Ynez: one pair--black is okay?
That makes six pair. I'll order seven, just in case. See y'all on the weekend. I'll cc you on order confirmation. I probably have everybody's email. Hodges and Mock, can you e-mail me at evel_ution@yahoo.com? I have everyone else.
KEWL!!!
There is obviously a lot to learn. There are some good points here.
I don’t usually reply to posts but I will in this case, great info...I will add a backlink and bookmark your site. Keep up the good work!
