Andy,

You are quite the badass :o) Explain...

I am so glad this pic ended up on the CFEB main page, where it deservedly belongs. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY!!

Pour some sugar on THAT guy.

That guy behind you wants some.

MT

Agreed Princess Raindrop...he's definitely checking out your ass Andy.

By the way, has anyone else noticed the Reebok "Run Easy" billboard ad that's rather prominent just before you round the last turn of the GWPC 800 meter course? The one that sarcastically says "Congratulations, you can't stand up." I noticed it today and couldn't help but laugh.

I have noticed the billboard, and must admit, I don't get it.

MT

Reebok came up with a whole marketing campaign that basically said "you should be able to run and be comfortable at the same time - starting with our shoes." No idea why they decided to take shots at athletes who choose to work hard though. Good thing I got over "the Pump" shoes.

I found some info about Reebok's campaign. It's not aimed at CrossFitters.

Research revealed that many runners felt alienated by the classic "performance-driven" advertising message which focuses on "being the best" or pushing yourself to the limits. Reebok sought to reinvigorate its brand by focusing on the joy and fun of running and motivate consumers to enjoy the sport at a pace that is right for them. This new multimedia campaign from Reebok aims to position Reebok squarely with casual athletes. Reebok uses the spots to show consumers that there are multiple reasons that people exercise, and that one of the primary reasons is social. Social exercising is obviously still healthy, but considerably more pleasant. The campaign aggressively targets Nike (as in the print execution above which chides “What are you just doing? Run easy”) and seeks to put Reebok in a separate orbit.

I was never clear on whether the billboard was sarcastic or just really, really hardcore. I guess running so hard that you can no longer stand up doesn't seem that outlandish to me.

MT

Thanks Elaine...interesting, the idea in general makes sense (though Daniel I'm in your boat). I guess if they're assuming they already don't get business from the more "hardcore" athletes in the first place, a billboard like that doesn't risk alienating that group. That said, I'm still going to be sensitive and offended, and am unhappy with Reebok ;c)

That shows how far gone I am. I had no idea there was a negative connotation to the ad, I just was not quite clear on what "Run Easy" meant, I figured that was a joke of some kind (why would you run easy?) it goes well with our new slogan "Overtraining: it's the New Training).

Ok, that Reebok thing is pissing me off. What in the world are they thinking?! Lets flatten out the whole playing field, give everyone a prize and hey lets make extra sure you're 'comfortable' through the whole process. Give me a break!

I think this is way more exciting, humbling and something to strive for:

Happy Birthday Andy!!

You look like someone I dated in 1978...lol!:)

i'm just STARTING to recover from the last cycle. My shoulders were fried. And I don't mean that "good" DOMS feeling, but literally, that I couldn't do ohs during my warmup, after doing dislocates. which i could barely do with an absurdly wide grip (as wide as i could stretch my arms and still clear my head). Perfect time start with 100 c2b pullups right?

The searing pain i felt on the first rep told me to "back off" and do them baby-style, just clearing my chin. Gotta love crossfit. Even so, every rep brought on a grimace and the pushups were close to as painful. Situps and squats were manageable.

followed with my first CFEndurance workout in like half a year, of Tabata Bike.

Then an assload of PNF, more dislocates, and a couple of skin the cats (rings).

can't skimp on daily stretching. I learned my lesson...again

AndyWOD: 8:34, and my first WOD with real HSPU's (not full ROM, but genuinely inverted).

Daniel - I applaud your genuine invertedness.

AndyWOD - 6:08, HSPU were not full ROM but all the rest was RX.

Generally I do not post on blogs, but I would like to say that this post really forced me to do so, Excellent post!
