Trainers/Doron

I have an extensive amateur athletic background: I grew up in Israel, Europe and the US, competing in tennis, baseball, soccer, and diving.

In 2001, while teaching Judo and Jujitsu in college, I heard about CrossFit. For the next 6 years, I dabbled in it. I got great results but continued to return to body-building type training with lots of cardio. After doing my first triathlon in 2007, with the usual mix of running, swimming and biking every day, I was exhausted, both by the training (almost 25 hours per week) and the race itself. I finished it, but was destroyed. Soon thereafter, while finishing my thesis, my school and teaching schedule permitted very limited time to work out, and CrossFit was the perfect fit.

For my second triathlon, I vowed to test myself using only CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance. within a month, training only five hours per week, I crushed my previous  time. Best of all, I felt fresh after the race. That's when the light turned on. I was leaner, stronger, and healthier than I'd ever been. I was hooked.

My own struggles with my lack of flexibility taught me the importance of developing strengths from multiple angles. I had to be patient with my body and to accept progress at my own pace. I found that videotaping and photographing my workouts and techniques made a huge difference in helping me understand where I was being less efficient, and I  now use video regularly with everyone I train.

Drawing on my background teaching piano and Assistant Teaching in graduate school, I experimented with introducing CrossFit to friends and family. After acquiring a Master's of Architecture (M.Arch.1) at Syracuse University, I moved back to the Bay Area. There, I found CrossFit East Bay while rock climbing for the first time, and joined that same day. After  seven years of CrossFitting and  two more years of training and helping out at CFEB, I got certified.

I am constantly upgrading my abilities and have most recently focused on optimizing mobility, primarily via the Mobility WODs by Kelly Starrett, DPT. I use my perspective from participating and coaching in competitive athletics, my decade of experience with CrossFit and my abilities as a videographer to help my clients to leverage their strengths and uncover untapped potential.
