Trainers/Rafael
I started CrossFit because I was a really wimpy, slow, and
chubby version of my former athletic self (I ran Track at USC) and I didn't
like it. I tried joining a gym and later a running club.
Unfortunately, I hardly ever went to the gym and even when I was consistent, I
didn't see the results I wanted. The running club was great but very limiting.
We ran, but that was it. I needed something more than logging miles.
When I stepped into a CrossFit gym, I knew I'd found what I
was looking for: Interesting workouts, body weight movements relevant to
survival situations, weight lifting with Olympic barbells, and absolutely no
vanity. The athletes working out weren't there to fawn at their own reflections
(in fact, there weren't even mirrors on the walls). They were there with one
purpose: to become fitter, healthier human beings. I really dug that.
After four years of CrossFitting, and a return to high athletic ability, I've
decided to become a CrossFit trainer myself. I love teaching and fixing
technique in the Olympic and Power lifts. I challenge my athletes to keep good
form and am never gun-shy about stopping bad form mid-workout (bad repetitions
make for bad habits). My training
philosophy is simple: I'm not trying to destroy your body, I'm making you a machine.
